Major Darin HoodMajor Darin Hood has been a member of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office since 1999.  His previous positions include patrol deputy, field training deputy, school resource deputy, detective, patrol sergeant, accreditation sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Unit, lieutenant in Internal Affairs, Lieutenant/Watch Commander in patrol, and most recently promoted to Captain of the Specialized Services Division and then in October 2017 Capt. Darin Hood was promoted to Major over the Law Enforcement Bureau.

Major Hood earned an Associate of Arts degree from South Florida Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida, majoring in Criminology, and a Graduate Certificate from the University of Virginia in Criminal Justice Education.  He received his law enforcement certification from Santa Fe College, Gainesville. 

Major Hood is a Certified Public Manager, earning this certification in August 2012 through the Florida Center for Public Management, Florida State University.  Major Hood graduated from the Florida Sheriff’s Association Commanders Academy, Class 6. Major Hood is also a graduate of the 11-week 274th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, graduating in December 2018.

The Law Enforcement Bureau is comprised of the following Divisions and Units: Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Operations, Specialized Services, Fleet Maintenance, and 911 Communications. This agency's Law Enforcement Bureau's responsibility includes 24-hour-a-day services. This Bureau provides full-service law enforcement for the visitors and residents of Highlands County, making our community a safe place to live, work and visit. The men and women of this Bureau are assigned to various Divisions and trained in the duties to respond to the needs of the community and public safety. As with all components of the Sheriff's Office, the Law Enforcement Bureau works to meet a high standard of professional service for the residents of Highlands County.
